The first official S&V event is a Charizard Black Crystal Tera Raid Battle!
That’s right the first new online event for Scarlet and Violet has been officially announced by the Pokemon Company. I will go through the event details first and then information on the new Raids, as even I need to have a suss on how to capture this fire boy.
Charizard Event Info
Starting last night the Charizard event started and will last until December 4th. Don’t panic if you don’t currently have the time as he will be reappearing later in December from the 15th to the 18th. Charizard cannot be found in the wild in Paldea and this Charizard also has a Tera type which looks like flying from the Tera image we have been shown.
Below are the rewards that come with defeating and capturing the Black Crystal Tera Charizard.
How do Tera Raids work and how do we find them in S&V?
A Tera Raid is very similar to our Max Raid Den battles. However if you are not far enough into the storyline of the game some may not be visible to you (sneaky right!). There are two types of Tera Raids, the standard crystal ones which are a pinky colour and a black crystal, like the Charizard event above. If you are not up to a certain stage of the Pokemon story you will only see the standard Tera raids, however later on in the game you can go back and see they have turned into Black Crystals. The Pokemon you will encounter in the Black Crystal raids are super strong and have at least 5 stars. The only way around it is to play online and join an online Tera Raid of someone who is that far and is inviting others to play.
There is still a 4 on 1 battle, you can do this with a code like we did in S&S online, alone or with anyone online who wants to join.
This is what the Black crystals for tera raids look like and how they appear in our map. You will need to make sure you have a Nintendo Switch Online membership and connect to the internet in the Pokemon game itself as well. To do this you open the menu and click the L button.
Similar to the Online Gigantamax Raid Events, to make the online crystal events to show you must go into your mystery gift and click ‘Poke Portal News’. This will update your game for the current special Tera events.
