MEGA Dream ex: Japan’s New High Class Pack Featuring Mega Dragonite ex Revealed
The Pokémon TCG in Japan has officially unveiled its 2025 High Class Pack: MEGA Dream ex, headlined by the long-awaited Mega Dragonite ex. Scheduled for release on November 28th, this premium annual set continues the tradition of delivering reprints, powerful new cards, and an extensive lineup of secret rare cards—making it one of the most anticipated drops of the year.
A 193-Card Set Packed with Reprints, Rarities, and Guaranteed ex Cards
MEGA Dream ex includes 193 cards in the main set, most of which are curated reprints from the past year. High Class Packs traditionally act as a catch-up opportunity for collectors and competitive players, providing access to previously hard-to-obtain cards.
Each booster pack contains:
- 10 cards (double the normal amount)
- A guaranteed Pokémon ex in every pack

This structure mirrors previous year-end sets like VMAX Climax and Shiny Treasure ex, offering high pull density and premium card quality.
Reverse Holos Featuring Poké Balls and Energy Icons
One of the standout design features of MEGA Dream ex is its new reverse holo patterns. These include both:
- Energy-type patterned foils
- Multiple Poké Ball styles

The only confirmed example so far is Budew with a Friend Ball reverse holo, hinting at a variety of ball-themed visual treatments across the set. More patterns are expected to be revealed leading into release week.
New Secret Rares: Mega Gengar ex, Grimmsnarl ex, and More
Four new Secret Rares have already been previewed, including:
- Special Illustration Rare Mega Gengar ex
- Special Illustration Rare Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex

Notably, neither received a Special Illustration Rare previously because they originated from preconstructed decks.
Marnie’s Grimmsnarl ex is numbered #243/193, confirming the set will contain at least 50 Secret Rares, likely spanning:
- Illustration Rares
- Special Illustration Rares
- Gold cards
- Ultra Rares
- And the newly introduced Mega Attack rares
Introducing “Mega Attack” Rares—A New Card Type
As revealed months earlier, MEGA Dream ex debuts a brand-new rarity:
Mega Attack Rares
These cards feature:
- Comic book–inspired artwork
- Attack names dramatically printed over the artwork
- Japanese attack names on English cards, and English names on Japanese cards
This flair is a deliberate callback to the Mega Evolution cards of the XY era (2013), evoking nostalgic energy with modern design sensibilities.

A Set Years in the Making
The MEGA Dream ex project first entered the spotlight through June trademark filings, followed by early leaks and August reveals. The first official cards—including English Mega Dragonite ex—were showcased at Worlds, though English set symbols were intentionally hidden during the preview.
English Release Confirmed for January 30th
This week, it was confirmed that international players will receive MEGA Dream ex cards in a special English release arriving January 30th. While details on the English format remain under wraps, the set is expected to feature many—if not all—of the Mega Dragonite ex and Mega Attack rare cards.
