Raikou is the latest Pokémon to be created in a Kimekomi Doll!

Back in 2019 Mataro Doll designed their first Pokémon Kimekomi Doll, Pikachu. Since then they have released two more Pokémon Dolls, a Milktank and an Eevee, until now as they have made an announcement that another Pokémon has been chosen and that Pokémon is Raikou.

The ‘Mataro Doll’ store are certified as the only orthodox traditional person by Kamigamo Shrine, the birthplace of kimekomi dolls, and we produce kimekomi dolls, which are traditional crafts that have been passed down for 280 years. There would be no other doll like it as all the Kimekomi Dolls have their own traditional ways of creation.

I personally already have the Pikachu Kimekomi Doll and it is a work of art. You can see each little strand used to create it and it sits beautifully on display with the base plate, sheet and Japanese name plate.

To celebrate Raikou’s release all four Pokémon Dolls are now available on the Mataro Doll store, sadly they only supply with Japan – but I have you covered.

Information from the makers: Why Raikou?

Raikou is a Pokémon that is characterized by “because it carries rain clouds, it can emit lightning at any time.” “Edo Kimekomi Doll Raikou” has a plump and rounded form that is typical of Kimekomi Dolls. On top of that, it also expresses Raikou’s characteristics such as body patterns, facial details, rain clouds on the back, and a jagged tail. These small parts are made by hand by craftsmen, such as grooving the base for graining the cloth (streak carving) and graining the fabric one by one, and you can see the high technique of traditional crafts. can do.

With the thought of “I want you to decorate it as a New Year’s decoration” and “I want you to decorate it throughout the year 2022”, I chose “Raikou” as the third in the Pokemon Edo Kimekomi doll series.
