Pokémon Astronomical Observatory Officially Opens In Japan

Explore the stars with Pokémon at Sagamihara City Museum

The Pokémon Astronomical Observatory (ポケモン天文台) has officially opened in Japan, marking the start of its highly anticipated public debut after being teased last year. The interactive science exhibition combines the world of Pokémon with the wonders of outer space, creating a fun and educational experience for fans of all ages. (See our previous coverage here for when the event was first announced in August)

A Collaboration Between Pokémon And Science

Developed in partnership with the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), the Pokémon Astronomical Observatory aims to teach visitors about planets, stars, and galaxies through a Pokémon-themed lens. The exhibition uses colourful visuals, interactive activities, and real astronomical data to make learning about the universe exciting and accessible.

The exhibition officially opened on November 1st, 2025, at the Sagamihara City Museum in Kanagawa Prefecture, where it will run until January 12th, 2026. After that, it will begin touring across Japan throughout 2026.

What Visitors Can Expect

Guests can explore themed displays featuring Pokémon such as Solrock, Lunatone, Cleffa, Jirachi, and others connected to the stars and cosmos. Visitors can also enjoy hands-on science exhibits, projection shows, and limited-edition merchandise exclusive to the event — including plushies, stationery, and astronomy-inspired collectibles.

A major highlight is the exhibition’s ability to connect the imaginative world of Pokémon with real scientific principles — showing how curiosity about the universe can begin through play and storytelling.
