Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness Now Available on Nintendo Classics
Nintendo has expanded its Nintendo Classics library with the addition of Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness, bringing the beloved GameCube-era title to modern players through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack service.
The game is now accessible within the GameCube classics catalogue, allowing subscribers to revisit the fan-favourite RPG or experience it for the first time on newer hardware.
Available on Switch 2 via Expansion Pack
As part of the rollout of GameCube titles on Nintendo’s subscription platform, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness is only playable on the next-generation Switch hardware. Access requires an active Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack membership, which unlocks select retro libraries across multiple Nintendo systems.
A Classic Pokémon Adventure Returns
Originally released on the GameCube, Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness is remembered for its darker tone, unique setting in the Orre region, and its focus on Shadow Pokémon mechanics. Players take on the role of a young Trainer working to purify corrupted Pokémon while battling the antagonistic Cipher organisation.
The title’s return to Nintendo Classics marks another step in preserving Pokémon’s console legacy, following increased demand from fans to see classic spin-off titles made available on modern platforms.
Trailer Released
Nintendo has also released a trailer showcasing the game’s return, giving players a look at enhanced compatibility and nostalgic gameplay moments from the original release.
With retro titles continuing to arrive on the service, the addition of Pokémon XD highlights Nintendo’s ongoing commitment to expanding its digital classics catalogue for longtime fans and new audiences alike.
