Japan’s Noto Satoyama Airport Becoming a Pokémon-Themed Airport Through 2029

Japan is taking its love of Pokémon travel to the next level, with Noto Satoyama Airport officially set to receive a major Pokémon makeover.

The airport, located in Ishikawa Prefecture, will feature a Pokémon theme from July 7th, 2026 through until September 30th, 2029.

Pokémon Decorations, Merchandise and Food Planned

According to official announcements, the airport transformation will include:

  • Pokémon-themed decorations throughout the airport
  • Exclusive merchandise
  • Special Pokémon food and drinks
  • Pokémon photo spots and displays

The collaboration is part of ongoing tourism and regional revitalisation efforts connected to Pokémon’s long-running “Pokémon Local Acts” projects in Japan.

While full details have not yet been revealed, travellers can expect themed shopping areas, exclusive airport goods, and Pokémon-inspired meals similar to those previously seen at Japanese Pokémon cafés and transport collaborations.

Part of Pokémon’s Regional Tourism Projects

The airport project is tied to Pokémon’s broader efforts to support regional tourism throughout Japan.

Ishikawa Prefecture already has a strong connection with Piplup, which serves as one of the region’s official support Pokémon as part of the Pokémon Local Acts initiative.

Themed airports, trains, and aircraft have become increasingly popular in Japan over recent years, with Pokémon-themed ANA planes already becoming iconic attractions for travellers and aviation fans alike.

Pokémon Tourism Keeps Expanding

The idea of a fully Pokémon-themed airport feels like a natural next step given how huge Pokémon travel collaborations have become in Japan.

Between:

  • Pokémon trains
  • Pokémon planes
  • Pokémon hotel rooms
  • Pokémon-themed train stations

…the franchise has already become deeply connected with tourism across the country.

Honestly, this is such a cool idea. Pokémon planes were already exciting enough, but now Japan is basically getting a mini Pokémon airport experience too. If they really go all-out with decorations, merch and themed food, this could easily become a must-visit destination for Pokémon fans travelling through Japan over the next few years.
