Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo and Pikachu Sweets Set to Reopen in September 2026

After months of closure, Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo and the attached Pikachu Sweets by Pokémon Cafe are finally preparing to welcome fans back.

The Pokémon Company has officially confirmed that both locations are scheduled to reopen sometime in September 2026, following their temporary closure in March after a tragic incident occurred inside the store.

Closed Since March 2026

Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo has remained closed since March 27, 2026 after a fatal stabbing incident that occurred inside the store on March 26.

According to reports, the incident took place at approximately 7:15 PM local time. Following the event, The Pokémon Company announced an indefinite closure while cooperating with police investigations and prioritising the wellbeing of staff members.

The closure also affected Pikachu Sweets, the popular takeaway dessert shop located next to the Pokémon Center. Fans visiting Sunshine City over the past several months have been met with shuttered entrances and closed gates.

Renovations and Safety Improvements Planned

The Pokémon Company has stated that the reopening period will be used to carry out partial renovations to the store.

In addition, new initiatives are reportedly being introduced to strengthen safety measures for both employees and visitors. While specific details have not yet been announced, many fans online have welcomed the decision to take extra precautions before reopening one of Pokémon’s most popular destinations.

One of Pokémon’s Most Important Stores

For many Trainers, Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo is considered the flagship Pokémon Center location in Japan.

Located inside Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, the massive store attracts visitors from across Japan and around the world. The location is known for:

  • Exclusive Pokémon Center merchandise
  • Giant Pokémon displays and statues
  • Seasonal events and promotions
  • Direct access to Pikachu Sweets
  • Frequent collaboration campaigns and limited products

Because of its popularity, many fans were worried the location might remain closed permanently following the incident. The announcement of a September reopening has brought a huge wave of relief across the Pokémon community.

More Information Still to Come

At this stage, an exact reopening date has not yet been revealed.

The Pokémon Company has only confirmed that operations are expected to resume around September 2026, with additional information expected closer to reopening.

For Pokémon fans planning a future trip to Japan, this is fantastic news. Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo has always been one of the must-visit locations for collectors and Trainers, and it will be exciting to see what changes, renovations, and new experiences arrive when the store finally opens its doors again later this year.
