Pokémon GO May 2026 Community Day Classic Brings Back Deino
Hydreigon Returns With Brutal Swing, players who evolve Zweilous into Hydreigon during the event — or up until 9:00 PM local time that same day — will receive a Hydreigon that knows the exclusive Charged Attack Brutal Swing.
Brutal Swing has the following stats:
- Trainer Battles: 55 power
- Gyms and Raids: 65 power
Hydreigon remains one of the stronger Dark-type attackers in Pokémon GO, meaning this Community Day Classic could be especially valuable for newer players who missed the original Deino event years ago.
Shiny Deino and Special Backgrounds Available
During the event, Deino will appear far more frequently in the wild, with boosted chances of finding:
- Shiny Deino
- Deino featuring a Special Background
Niantic also confirmed that starting in 2026, Community Day Pokémon can feature yearly Special Background variants, adding another collectible element for long-time players.
Bonuses and Event Features
A number of event bonuses will be active throughout the Community Day Classic period, including:
- 3× XP for catching Pokémon
- Three-hour Incense duration
- One-hour Lure Modules
- Snapshot surprises during the event
Additionally, from 2:00 PM until 9:00 PM local time, PokéStops with active regular Lure Modules will continue spawning Deino at a very high rate, including potential Shiny and Special Background variants.
Paid Special Research Returns
As with recent Community Day events, players can purchase a special paid research ticket for:
- US$1.99 (or regional equivalent)
The research includes:
- Additional Deino encounters
- Three Deino encounters featuring Special Backgrounds
- One Premium Battle Pass
- One Rare Candy XL
- Additional rewards and items
Tickets can also be gifted to friends who have reached Great Friends level or higher.
Field Research and Community Meetups
Special Community Day Classic Field Research will also be available during the event, rewarding players with:
- Stardust
- Great Balls
- More Deino encounters
- Possible Special Background encounters
Niantic is once again encouraging players to attend Community Ambassador meetups and local park gatherings through Campfire and official Community Day maps.

Deino’s original Community Day remains one of the more popular Dragon-type events Pokémon GO has ever held, largely thanks to Hydreigon’s usefulness and the popularity of Shiny Deino.
Honestly, bringing it back as a Community Day Classic feels like a pretty safe win for Niantic. Shiny Deino is still one of the coolest Dragon-type shinies in the game, and there are definitely plenty of players who missed out the first time around.
