Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO & Pikachu Sweets to Reopen on August 24 Following Major Safety Renovations

After nearly five months of closure, Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO and Pikachu Sweets by Pokémon Café are finally set to welcome fans back.

The Pokémon Company has officially announced that both locations will reopen on Monday, August 24, 2026, following extensive renovations and safety improvements at the flagship Pokémon destination in Sunshine City, Ikebukuro.

A Long-Awaited Return

Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO has remained closed since March 26, 2026, after a tragic incident at the store led to an immediate shutdown while authorities conducted their investigation and staff were provided with support.

Since then, The Pokémon Company has been working behind the scenes to prepare the store’s return, with a strong focus on creating an even safer environment for both customers and employees.

Reopening Date Confirmed

The official reopening schedule is:

Monday, August 24, 2026

The reopening applies to both:

  • Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO
  • Pikachu Sweets by Pokémon Café

Located side by side in Sunshine City Alpa in Ikebukuro, the two attractions are among Japan’s most popular destinations for Pokémon fans.

Safety Improvements

According to The Pokémon Company, renovation works have focused on improving safety throughout the facility.

While specific details of the renovations have not been released, the company says the work has been carried out to enhance the safety and security of both visitors and staff before reopening.

Entry Restrictions Will Apply

Fans planning to visit shortly after reopening should be aware that entry restrictions will be in place.

The Pokémon Company has confirmed that visitor numbers will be managed for a period following reopening, with additional information on admission procedures to be announced closer to August 24.

It’s expected that timed entry or other crowd-management measures may be used to ensure a safe and comfortable experience, although the exact system has not yet been detailed.

What About Pikachu Sweets?

The reopening also marks the return of Pikachu Sweets by Pokémon Café, famous for its adorable takeaway desserts and drinks inspired by Pikachu and other Pokémon.

The café serves themed treats including:

  • Pikachu doughnuts
  • Pokémon drinks
  • Seasonal sweets
  • Souvenir cups and packaging

It’s one of the few places in Japan where fans can enjoy Pokémon-themed desserts without needing a reservation for the full Pokémon Café experience.

Looking Ahead

The reopening is welcome news for Pokémon fans around the world, especially those planning trips to Japan later this year.

With Pokémon celebrating its 30th Anniversary, Pokémon Center MEGA TOKYO is expected to once again become one of the busiest Pokémon destinations in the country.

If you’re visiting after August 24, be sure to check the official Pokémon Center website before travelling, as admission procedures and visitor limits may still be in effect during the initial reopening period.
