McDonald’s Japan Unveils Massive Pokémon Summer 2026 Collaboration
Pokémon fans in Japan have another exciting collaboration to look forward to, with McDonald’s Japan officially revealing its biggest Pokémon-themed summer campaign yet to celebrate McDonald’s 55th Anniversary and Pokémon’s 30th Anniversary.
The campaign, known as Pokémon Summer McDonald’s 2026, launches throughout July and features exclusive collectibles, special menu promotions, Pokémon GO tie-ins, and a limited-edition Summer Chance Bag packed with Pokémon merchandise.
Pokémon Summer Chance Bag 2026
One of the biggest highlights is the Pokémon Summer Chance Bag, which costs 3,900 yen and is available through a lottery system via the McDonald’s Japan app.
Applications open from July 10, 2026 (2:00 PM JST) until July 20, 2026 (11:59 PM JST), with successful applicants able to purchase their bags between July 27 and August 2, 2026.
Each Summer Chance Bag includes:
- Pokémon French Fries Timer
- Colour-Changing Pokémon Cup (1 of 3 designs)
- Pokémon Zipper Pouch (1 of 3 designs)
- McDonald’s Food Coupons worth up to 3,910 yen
- A 1 in 10 chance of receiving a special Gold McDonald’s Card worth an additional 500 yen
Because the included food vouchers are worth almost the same price as the bag itself, many Japanese collectors see the exclusive Pokémon merchandise as an added bonus.
Exclusive Pokémon Collectibles
The Summer Chance Bag features three brand-new Pokémon items inspired by McDonald’s.
Pikachu French Fries Timer
The standout collectible is an electronic French Fries Timer shaped like a McDonald’s fries container.
When the countdown reaches zero, Pikachu pops out of the fries, making it one of the most unique Pokémon x McDonald’s collectibles released in recent years.
Colour-Changing Cups
Collectors will also receive one random colour-changing cup.
When filled with a cold drink, the cup changes colour to reveal one of three classic starter Pokémon designs:
- Pikachu & Squirtle
- Pikachu & Charmander
- Pikachu & Bulbasaur
Pokémon Zipper Pouch
The final exclusive item is a colourful zipper pouch, available in three random colours:
- Blue
- Red
- Green
Each features playful McDonald’s-themed Pokémon artwork, including burgers, fries, Poké Balls and Pikachu.

The Summer Chance Bag is only the beginning.
McDonald’s Japan has confirmed several additional parts of the collaboration will roll out during July, including:
- July 10 – Summer Chance Bag and value promotions
- July 16 – New Pokémon-themed burgers
- July 31 – Pokémon Happy Meal campaign
A Pokémon GO collaboration is also planned, with approximately 3,000 McDonald’s restaurants across Japan becoming sponsored PokéStops and Gyms from July 20 through September 1, 2026.
A Celebration of Pokémon’s 30th Anniversary
This collaboration forms part of Pokémon’s ongoing 30th Anniversary celebrations, which have already included exclusive merchandise, Pokémon Center events, ANA Pokémon Jets, and special Trading Card Game releases.
