Pokémon Japan Launches “Start Your Pokémon TCG Journey” Beginner Events Across the Country
If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon Japan is making it easier than ever.
The Pokémon Company has announced a brand-new nationwide initiative called “Start Your Pokémon TCG Journey Here! First-Time Pokémon TCG Experience Event”, giving complete beginners the chance to learn the game in a fun and welcoming environment.
Beginning in August 2026, participating stores across Japan will host free introductory sessions where new players can learn the basics, battle using loan decks, and even take home exclusive participation gifts.
Learn the Pokémon TCG From Scratch
Designed specifically for newcomers, the experience event removes many of the barriers that can make learning a trading card game feel intimidating.
Best of all—you don’t need to bring anything.
Participating stores will provide everything required to start playing, including Starter Set ex decks that players can borrow during the event.
Friendly staff will guide attendees through:
- How Pokémon card battles work
- The basic rules of the Pokémon TCG
- How turns are played
- How to attack, evolve Pokémon, and win games
It’s the perfect introduction for anyone who’s been curious about the Pokémon Trading Card Game but didn’t know where to begin.
Free Battles for New and Existing Players
For those who already know the basics, select participating stores will also offer free play sessions, allowing players to borrow Starter Set ex decks and battle other Trainers in a relaxed environment.
This gives newcomers the opportunity to put their new skills into practice immediately after learning the rules.
Free Participation Rewards
Everyone who joins a Pokémon TCG lesson will receive an exclusive mini review booklet, helping new players remember what they’ve learned after the event.
Players who complete a post-event survey will also receive one of two special Pokémon stickers, featuring:

These bonuses are available while supplies last, making them a nice little keepsake for first-time Trainers.
Held Across Japan
The beginner events will take place throughout August, September and October 2026, with dozens of participating stores spanning nearly every region of Japan.

- Shikoku
- Kyushu & Okinawa
Major retailers such as Furuichi, Edion, WonderGOO, Ganryu, and dedicated Trading Card Park locations are all taking part, with many stores hosting multiple sessions throughout August.
The Pokémon Company has also confirmed that additional participating stores will be announced in the future, giving even more players the opportunity to join.
