Shiny Chien-Pao Tera Raid Event Now Live in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet

The Pokémon Company has officially launched the next phase of the Treasures of Ruin Shiny Tera Raid challenge in Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet. This time, the spotlight falls on the icy Legendary Chien-Pao, appearing in special 5-star Tera Raids starting today.

The event runs from August 8, 2025 through August 17, 2025. During this period, Trainers can team up to battle Shiny Chien-Pao across Paldea. While this raid-exclusive version cannot be caught, every victory still counts toward a major global goal: if players collectively defeat Chien-Pao 1 million times or more, a Shiny Chien-Pao will be distributed to all players via Mystery Gift after the event concludes.

The Shiny Chien-Pao event follows last month’s hugely successful Shiny Wo-Chien challenge, which saw more than 3.5 million wins—triple the target. With that momentum, the community is eager to push the challenge even further for Chien-Pao.

Best Pokémon to Use Against Chien-Pao

Chien-Pao is an Ice/Dark-type Pokémon, making it weak to Fighting, Steel, Bug, Rock, and Fire moves. However, it also hits hard with powerful physical Ice- and Dark-type attacks, so choosing Pokémon with good bulk and resistances is essential. Recommended options include:

  • Iron Hands – Electric/Fighting; extremely bulky with huge Attack. Use Drain Punch to deal damage and heal at the same time.
  • Koraidon – Fighting/Dragon; strong Fighting STAB with Close Combat or Drain Punch. Sun boosts Fire moves for extra coverage.
  • Lucario – Steel/Fighting; resists Ice and Dark, can use Aura Sphere or Meteor Mash.
  • Corviknight – Steel/Flying; great physical defense, resists Ice, and can chip away with Iron Head.
  • Scizor – Bug/Steel; strong resistance to Chien-Pao’s STAB moves, with Bullet Punch for priority.
  • Ceruledge – Fire/Ghost; immune to Fighting and resistant to Ice, with Bitter Blade for healing damage.

Make sure to focus on physical defense boosts (Iron Defense, Reflect) and bring support Pokémon like Grimmsnarl or Umbreon to help the team survive.

The Shiny Chien-Pao raid is the second of four planned Legendary Shiny Tera Raid challenges, with Shiny Ting-Lu and Shiny Chi-Yu set to follow in September.
