ANA Announces Three New Pokémon Jets for the Franchise’s 30th Anniversary

Japanese airline ANA (All Nippon Airways) has announced a brand new fleet of Pokémon-themed aircraft to celebrate the franchise’s 30th anniversary.

The airline revealed three special jets inspired by the original Pokémon games, each themed after one of the classic versions:

  • Boeing 787-8 – Pokémon Jet Red
  • Boeing 787-9 – Pokémon Jet Green
  • Boeing 737-800 – Pokémon Jet Blue

The aircraft are scheduled to begin operating sometime in 2026.

Domestic and International Routes

ANA has confirmed that the planes will operate on different routes:

  • Pokémon Jet Red – Domestic routes within Japan
  • Pokémon Jet Blue – Domestic routes within Japan
  • Pokémon Jet Green – International routes

The route choices are a little ironic for longtime fans. While the aircraft are themed after Pokémon Red, Green, and Blue, the original Pokémon Green version was actually exclusive to Japan, while Pokémon Red & Blue were the versions released internationally.

Japan’s Long History with Pokémon Planes

Japan has a long tradition of Pokémon-themed aircraft. ANA first introduced Pokémon planes back in the late 1990s during the height of Pokémania, and they quickly became iconic among fans and aviation enthusiasts alike.

These special aircraft often feature large Pokémon artwork across the fuselage, themed interiors, and exclusive merchandise available to passengers.

Historically, most Pokémon planes have been used primarily for domestic flights within Japan, making the announcement that one of the aircraft will fly international routes a particularly exciting development for fans hoping to spot one outside the country.

A Celebration of 30 Years of Pokémon

The new ANA aircraft are part of the broader Pokémon 30th Anniversary celebrations, which include special events, merchandise, collaborations, and new announcements throughout 2026.

For Pokémon fans traveling in Japan next year, there’s a good chance you might find yourself boarding one of these colorful aircraft featuring some of the most iconic games in the franchise’s history.

A teaser trailer showing the new Pokémon jets has also been released, giving fans a first glimpse at what these anniversary aircraft will look like when they take to the skies in 2026.
