Pokémon Pokopia Version 2.0.0 Update Now Live, Adds Diving, Underwater Building and Bubbly Basin Support

Pokémon Pokopia has received its biggest update yet, with Version 2.0.0 now available for Nintendo Switch 2.

Released on August 4, 2026, the update adds a huge number of new features, improvements and bug fixes, most notably introducing the ability to Dive underwater.

The update also prepares the game for the first part of the paid Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass, Bubbly Basin, which takes players into a brand-new underwater town. Nintendo has confirmed that the Expansion Pass contains three parts, with Bubbly Basin being the first, followed by additional content later in 2026 and 2027.

Dive Into an Entirely New Part of Pokopia

The biggest addition in Version 2.0.0 is the Dive move.

After learning Dive, players can travel freely underwater, opening up new areas to explore and giving Ditto another way to interact with the world.

But this isn’t simply an exploration feature.

Players can also plant grass and build structures underwater, meaning the underwater areas can become part of the Pokémon utopia you’re creating.

Nintendo previously described the free update as allowing players to explore the ocean floor, build structures and create their own underwater towns alongside Pokémon.

How Do You Unlock Dive?

Dive isn’t available immediately.

Players must first complete the important request “Raise the environment level!” in Bleak Beach and meet the requirements to learn the new move.

Once Dive has been unlocked, it can be used to access the underwater areas introduced with the update.

For players who own the Expansion Pass, this is also a requirement for entering Bubbly Basin.

Bubbly Basin Expansion Now Supported

Version 2.0.0 also introduces support for Bubbly Basin, the first paid DLC in the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass.

Bubbly Basin introduces a brand-new underwater town where players can meet additional Pokémon, discover new furniture and obtain new outfits for Ditto.

Nintendo’s official description confirms that Bubbly Basin is built around the newly introduced Dive ability, with the underwater town accessible after learning Dive and completing the required Bleak Beach request.

New Underwater Building Options

The underwater expansion isn’t just about swimming around.

Version 2.0.0 adds the ability to use the Build specialty underwater, allowing players to construct houses beneath the surface.

New items have also been added, including:

  • Portal Pod
  • Safe
  • Additional build recipes

Some of these recipes become available after increasing Palette Town’s environment level.

This opens up some pretty interesting possibilities for players who enjoy spending time designing their own towns.

Dynamic Ditto Print Gets Even More Useful

The update also introduces a new pattern called Dynamic Ditto Print.

Players can obtain the pattern by speaking with Smearguru after acquiring the diploma.

The Expansion Pass also includes a Dynamic Ditto Print recipe as a purchase bonus. Nintendo’s support information confirms that this recipe is available as part of the Expansion Pass benefits.

New Emotes

Two new emotes have also been added:

Lie Down

Ready, Set, Go!

These can be obtained in Bleak Beach and on Dream Islands.

There’s also a particularly cute improvement: Pokémon that have taught Ditto an emote will now respond with the same emote when Ditto uses it.

Five New Hair Colours

Players looking for more character customisation also have some new options.

Version 2.0.0 adds five new hair colours:

  • Orange
  • Light pink
  • Yellow-green
  • Blue-green
  • Brown

It’s another small addition, but one that gives players more freedom when creating their Ditto character.

Plenty of Quality-of-Life Improvements

Version 2.0.0 isn’t just about the new underwater content.

There are a huge number of quality-of-life improvements throughout the game.

One particularly useful addition allows players to move items in bulk between their storage box and bag.

Players can also delete items placed inside objects such as garbage bins, while windows, doors and similar furniture now allow more precise depth placement.

Nintendo has also added a new motion-sickness reduction setting for the camera, which should make the game more comfortable for some players.

Pokémon Habitats Are More Forgiving

One of the more useful changes affects Pokémon habitats.

Previously, destroying a habitat could cause Pokémon to leave.

With the update, if the same habitat is rebuilt within a certain area, the Pokémon will now be able to move back in.

Pokémon that become sad after furniture is removed will also notice more quickly when the same furniture is replaced.

That’s a nice change for anyone who enjoys constantly redesigning their towns.

Pokémon Can Now Follow You During More Moves

Another fun improvement is that Pokémon companions can now follow Ditto while using:

  • Surf
  • Glide
  • Rollout
  • Magnet Rise

Rollout has also received several improvements, including the ability to destroy certain natural objects such as large boulders.

Ditto can now also inhale items and open the bag while rolling.

Meanwhile, Strength can now be used underwater, giving players even more options while exploring beneath the surface.

Surf Gets Some Improvements Too

Surf has also become easier to activate.

Players can now activate Surf on land by pressing the Surf button while holding the focus button.

The activation conditions for Surf and Waterfall have also been adjusted so they should trigger more smoothly.

More Decorating Options

A number of additional items can now be painted, including:

  • Stylish stool
  • Handrail
  • Metal chain
  • Workbench
  • Vending machine
  • Bike
  • Bookcase
  • Pokémon Center counter
  • Arrow sign
  • Rope

The update also improves the painting system, including better visibility of the item being painted with paint balloons.

Bigger Towns and More Photos

The number of different photos that can be displayed in a town has been increased from 10 to 40.

The placement limit for power generators, excluding furnaces, has also been increased from 64 to 128.

For players who enjoy building enormous towns, these changes should give them considerably more freedom.

Dream Islands Also Receive Improvements

Dream Islands haven’t been forgotten.

The amount of treasure that can be discovered using the Dowsing Machine has been increased.

Lost relics can also now be appraised in batches of up to 10 at a time, making the process considerably quicker.

A Huge List of Bug Fixes

Version 2.0.0 also addresses a long list of bugs and technical issues.

Among the fixes are problems involving Pokémon falling into the ocean or off cliffs, Pokémon failing to return to habitats, issues with multiplayer building, Dream Island loading problems and various visual glitches.

The update also fixes issues involving specific Pokémon, including Suicune and Gholdengo, which could previously have trouble travelling across water.

Several quest progression problems have also been addressed, including issues affecting requests in Withered Wasteland and Sparkling Skylands.

The update also includes general performance improvements.

Bubbly Basin Is Just the Beginning

The Expansion Pass isn’t stopping with Bubbly Basin.

Nintendo has confirmed that the Pokémon Pokopia Expansion Pass contains three parts:

Part 1 – Bubbly Basin

August 2026

A new underwater town featuring new Pokémon, furniture and Ditto outfits.

Part 2

Late 2026

Additional new features will be introduced. Nintendo has specifically confirmed that Part 2 will not add another new town.

Part 3

2027

A further new town will be introduced.

The Expansion Pass gives players access to all three parts as they release.

Pokémon Pokopia Keeps Getting Bigger

The Version 2.0.0 update represents a major expansion of what players can do in Pokémon Pokopia.

The introduction of underwater exploration alone gives players a completely new environment to work with, but when combined with underwater construction, new furniture, character customisation, new emotes and the Bubbly Basin DLC, there is a lot for players to discover.

And perhaps most importantly, Dive is available through the free update, meaning players don’t need to purchase the Expansion Pass simply to access the game’s new underwater movement mechanics. The paid Bubbly Basin content builds on that free foundation with its own underwater town, Pokémon and additional content.
