First Look at Aardman’s Pokémon Series Revealed – Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu
The Pokémon Company has shared an exciting new look at its upcoming stop-motion animated series, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu, developed in collaboration with legendary British animation studio Aardman.
New artwork, story details, and behind-the-scenes information were revealed during Aardman’s “Lights, Camera, Aardman!” panel at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, giving attendees an exclusive preview of the pilot episode while fans around the world were treated to the series’ first official poster.
Set to premiere in 2027, the series promises a charming new adventure told entirely from the perspective of Pokémon.

An Epic Adventure Through Galar
The newly released official synopsis gives fans a better idea of what to expect:
“Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is an epic journey through the wilds of Galar. Our heroes embark on a gallant quest to help and protect Pokémon across the region. Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown. Peril, alliances and rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them.”
Rather than following human Trainers, the story focuses entirely on Sirfetch’d and Pichu as they travel across the Galar region helping fellow Pokémon.
Aardman’s Signature Style
Aardman is one of the world’s most celebrated animation studios, best known for classics including:
- Wallace & Gromit
- Chicken Run
- Shaun the Sheep
The studio is famous for its handcrafted stop-motion animation, quirky characters, and uniquely British sense of humour.
According to Aardman Chief Creative Director Sarah Cox, director Tom Parkinson and the production team have created a handcrafted take on the Pokémon world that embraces the charm, comedy, and eccentric personalities fans know and love.
Built Around Pokémon, Not Trainers
One of the most interesting aspects of the series is that it’s told entirely from the Pokémon’s point of view.
Phil Rynda, Director of Original Animation at The Pokémon Company International, explained that the collaboration with Aardman provides a unique opportunity to tell stories from the perspective of Pokémon themselves—something rarely explored in previous animated projects.
This approach should give the series a very different feel from the traditional Pokémon anime.
First Look at Sirfetch’d and Pichu
The newly released key artwork showcases the two unlikely heroes setting off on their adventure.
Sirfetch’d appears every bit the brave knight, while Pichu brings plenty of energy (and likely mischief) to the duo.
The artwork perfectly captures Aardman’s distinctive handcrafted style, with expressive clay models and richly detailed scenery that already feels reminiscent of Wallace & Gromit.
A Perfect Setting for Aardman
The series takes place in the Galar region, first introduced in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.
Inspired by the United Kingdom, Galar makes a fitting backdrop for a collaboration with one of Britain’s most iconic animation studios.
During the Annecy presentation, Aardman also confirmed the series will feature the studio’s trademark British humour, something fans of Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep should feel right at home with.
Coming in 2027
While no exact release date has been announced, Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is officially scheduled to premiere sometime in 2027.
The Annecy panel also included an exclusive screening of the pilot episode and behind-the-scenes production materials, although these previews have not yet been released publicly.
More trailers and character reveals are expected over the coming months.
