Pokémon x Japanese Craft Exhibition Coming to Hiroshima This Summwe

One of Pokémon’s most unique and visually stunning art exhibitions is returning once again in Japan, with the hugely popular “Pokémon x Kōgei: Playful Encounters of Pokémon and Japanese Craft” exhibition officially heading to Hiroshima this summer.

The exhibition will run from:

  • July 10th to September 23rd, 2026

at the Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum.

Pokémon Reimagined Through Traditional Japanese Art

The exhibition features around 100 handcrafted artworks created by some of Japan’s leading contemporary craft artists.

Rather than simply displaying Pokémon merchandise, the project reimagines Pokémon through:

  • Ceramics
  • Metalwork
  • Woodwork
  • Lacquerware
  • Dyeing and textiles
  • Traditional Japanese craft techniques

Artists have created detailed interpretations of Pokémon, their movements, game stories, and personalities using traditional craftsmanship methods passed down through generations.

Works shown across the exhibition include artistic interpretations of Pokémon such as:

  • Pikachu
  • Bulbasaur
  • Shaymin
  • Corviknight
  • Charizard

One of the exhibition’s major goals is exploring how Pokémon’s designs and worlds can merge with traditional Japanese artistry in unexpected ways.

New Works Added for Hiroshima

The Hiroshima showing will also introduce brand-new artworks created specifically for this stop of the touring exhibition.

The Pokémon x Kōgei exhibition originally debuted at the National Crafts Museum in Ishikawa back in 2023 before touring across Japan and even internationally through locations including Los Angeles and Tokyo.

The Hiroshima event marks the exhibition’s first appearance in the Chūgoku and Shikoku regions of Japan.

Pokémon Meets High Art

Honestly, this continues to be one of the coolest Pokémon projects The Pokémon Company has ever done.

Instead of just focusing on nostalgia or merchandise, the exhibition treats Pokémon as genuine artistic inspiration, blending them with centuries-old Japanese craft traditions. Some of the ceramic and textile pieces especially look absolutely incredible — more like museum masterpieces than typical Pokémon collaborations.

For fans visiting Japan this summer, this honestly feels like one of the most unique Pokémon attractions currently running anywhere in the world.
